Editing = Rewriting

My appellate brief is due Monday and I am editing it for the third time and finding all these mistakes, rewriting entire paragraphs, and am trying to make sense of it all. In law school they do not really care about Jesus rising from the dead to save us from our sins...no no they care about having school on Good Friday and having an appellate brief (which is worth 75% of our grade in LRW) due the Monday after Easter. So all the people who enjoy going home to spend time with their families and thank God for sending Jesus down here to die for our sins will be working on last minute periods, citations, and transition words. I am working diligently to try and get this dang thing done by Saturday so I can proudly present my bundle of papers to the man at Kinkos and say "bind it" I AM DONE......and then go to the SETX Fair eat a crawfish pistellet (sp?) and spend Easter with my family. As of now.....that may or may not happen considering I am still editing....still have a table of contents to do...and still have a table of authorities to do...all in all I have a long way to go. But dont you worry I always make time for my followers and readers and couldn't dare forget to blog about my wonderful day and take time away from the appellate brief. For that matter I played with my cat and watched two hours of Cold Case today instead of working diligently to complete this work of art I like to call "The Appellate Brief." Due to the sworn oath of secrecy I took when stepping through the doors of law school I cannot utter a word about what the appellate brief is about...soo all you readers will have to wait in painful anticipation to find out what it is about after I turn it in on the glorious day we call Monday, April 5, 2010.....

As you can see the Red Bull is going to my head and I am not thinking straight...the perfect state of mind to edit your paper....

Back to it now...

Weekend Getaway....Austin

What an amazing weekend trip to Austin! We had so much to celebrate...Steven's 25th birthday, our 2 year anniversary (we have been dating for two years) and Kristen buying a house in North Carolina and getting matched at UNC!! We decided the perfect place to celebrate all these events would be Austin. Of course we had to take the group to the Oasis Friday night. I think if you go to Austin and have never been out to eat at the Oasis it is a must. We got there just before sunset. It was beautiful. Then Saturday we drove around showing his family the city of Austin. I took them around the Capitol and showed them where I used to work during my internship there and we ate at Austin Java. Yummy!! Then that night we went out to dinner and then of course to 6th Street so we could celebrate Steven's birthday properly. It was a fabulous weekend to say the least. Just what I needed. Lately I have been getting really stressed out and anxious about school. I don't know what it is...maybe the appellate brief or maybe the fact finals or right around the corner. Whatever it is I forgot about it this weekend. I was able to clear my head and really be thankful for the life I have. Law school can be daunting at times and can really get me down...make me forget all the good things going on in my life and I need to step back and breathe before I let that happen again.

Today I skipped class to work on my appellate brief all day. Non law school people do not realize how big of a deal citations are...but to all you law school people you will understand when I say that I worked on citations for a good two hours. I am happy I got that out of the way because it is so tedious and tiring. (at least to me it is) I proofread one time through and now just have about 20 more proofreads to go. But I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and it feels so warm. My goal is to have it done so I can actually enjoy Easter weekend with my family. Then after that HELLO OUTLINES and GOODBYE LIFE!

Friendship

Remember when you were little and your mom would call your friend's mom and they would set up a play date. That is how I met one of my best friends 17 years ago in kindergarten. You would play with dolls and barbies and pretend to be a mommy. Then in middle school you started calling your friends and asking them over for a sleep over. You would talk about boys and crushes and gossip and sneak out of bed for a midnight snack. That is when I met another one of my best friends. Fast forward a couple of years and it is college. You join a sorority and meet friends that bring out a side of you that your old friends never did. You make room in your life for them and forget what life was without them. Fast forward to now....as we are getting older it gets harder and harder to keep and stay in touch with all your friends. Everyone is growing up.....one is a teacher, one is engaged, another one is going of to the peace corps....Life gets hectic and crazy sometimes and you need friends to make you laugh and remind you not to take life so seriously. Even though there may be disagreements and hurt feelings .... there is always room for forgiveness....at least that is what I am trying to learn as I get older...I guess it is called growing up. But sometimes I wish I was back in elementary school when the hardest decision you had to make with your friend was who was going to have which American Girl Doll to play with.

Now I am in law school and have a new set of friends in my life. They know what kind of stress law school puts on you and they laugh with you over stupid stuff that no one else gets because they are not in law school. And again..I think to myself...how did I ever survive without these amazing friends in my life.

What was your healthy life style choice of the day?

My healthy life style choice of the day was drinking a fruit 2 day!! It is two servings of fruit and is only 120 calories. My law school friends and I joke a lot about how unhealthy we are. With law school taking first priority in our lives being a healthy gal goes on the back burner. I have not stepped into a gym since September and I have not worked out since October. Red bull, coffee, frozen pizza's, and Velveeta and shells are my nutritional choices. As you can see vegetables and fruit are pretty much missing. That is why I decided to start drinking a fruit 2 day every day and drink V8 Fusion. I don't like to buy fruit or vegetables because they always end up going bad and I throw them away. But now I have my servings of fruit in a liquid.

Don't worry fruit 2 day did not pay me to say good things about them I just really like it.

Tommy's healthy life style choice of the day was running circles around the apartment when I got home. Gah I love my cat.

Frustrated

I think I need to get one of these to put on my door and so I can bang the frustration out of my head. I am so frustrated....frustrated with the appellate brief...frustrated with another thing...just overall tired...stressed..but almost too tired to be stressed..and frustrated....

I wish they made a computer program that would write a brief for you....just put in the cases you want to use and the law you are relying on and then it would spit out a twenty page brief..

Ok back to looking at a black cursor blinking on the screen of my blank word doc...

Third Day of Spring (I think..)

Spring is here and that means that it is cotton dress and sandal wearing kind of weather. I could not be more ecstatic especially since I ran out of winter outfits a couple of weeks ago.

O Monday how I have a love hate relationship with you. Today I had to go back to school after being off for a week. I do not know what is harder.....going to school without breaks or going on a break and then having to get back into the routine of school. Needless to say I was not happy when my alarm went off this morning. I tried to do the curly look with my hair but that went down the drain real quick so instead I did the messy bun thing...and it looked retarded. O well. It was good seeing the law school crew and as always they made me laugh and remember that law school can be fun at times.

Tonight I was actually semi productive...I wrote an outline for my appellate brief!! Score...now I know some law school kids probably already have their brief written printed out and ready to go early.....but I decided to ignore it over my break. So for me this is a BIG DEAL.

Sometimes I wish I had life changing, world changing, exciting information to post on this blog...but sorry this is me...a law student perfecting the different avenues of procrastination....

Vintage Roses

My new fetish are these vintage roses. Do not ask why I just really like them.

Back to school tomorrow. UGHH ... I DO NOT WANT TO GO BACK....it is pure torture.....but I must keep in mine that in a little of 2 years I will be a lawyer and then it will all be worth it...until then I am a miserable law student. BLEHH

Sex and the City

I love Sex and the City. I am the proud owner of every single season. I love Carrie Bradshaw. The fashion in Sex and the City is absolutely amazing. If I only I could wear what Carrie Bradshaw wears and get away with it. I am anxiously awaiting May 28 when Sex and the City 2 comes out. Thank goodness I will be out of school when it does because if not I would have to put finals on hold to go indulge in another one of my guilty pleasures. Also, my lovely friend Maura told me that Candace Bushnell is coming out with a new book called the "Carrie Diaries." It will be released onto bookshelves this April and I am going to read it this summer along with every non-law related book I can get my hands on.

On a depressing note Spring Break is over...back to reality...back to the appellate brief...back to the books...back to facing the reality that finals are slowing creeping up behind me,

On an exciting note I got to meet with the Federal Magistrate that I am working with this summer. I am so excited. He showed me around the Federal Courthouse and talked to me about what I will be doing. I cannot wait. It is going to be a fabulous experience.

Ahh Pottery Barn

One of my goals/dreams in life other than graduating from law school, getting an awesome job, getting married to the man of my dreams, and having babies is to one day have my home look like a picture out of a Pottery Barn catalog. I absolutely LOVE Pottery Barn. I like their style. Very airy, bright, and homey. My dream home will have lots of natural light streaming in. Instead of curtains I want shutters....that light airy feel. After a long day at the office I want to come home sit on my comfy couch with my husband and cat and relax in my beautiful home.

The top picture is what my Spring Break looks like...AND the bottom one is what I wish it looked like...

Just Another Magic Monday

It is BEAUTIFUL outside today. The perfect way to start off Spring Break. So my best friend got engaged this weekend and I am so happy for her! It is so weird how we are growing up and slowly but surely turning into responsible adults. It seems like yesterday I was trying to navigate through the unknown waters of college and now all of a sudden my friends have jobs, engagement rings, and weddings to plan.

Sometimes I feel like law school has put my whole life on hold. I wonder a lot where I would be if I was not in law school. Maybe engaged...working....planning my own future wedding. But no instead I get to read and read some more and put all my wants on hold for the time being. It gets hard some times and patience is one virtue I do not have a lot of. I am trying to be more patient and tell myself that God has a bigger and better plan for me and if I would just wait it will be worth it.

I was googling and stumbled across the Anne Taintor design. I just loved it and wanted to share it with yall. Enjoy!

The Dormant Commerce Clause

I woke up this morning...on the first Saturday of Spring Break and read about the Dormant Commerce Clause. Yes, while my sister packed for Cabo I had a highlighter in one hand a pen in the other and was determined to finish reading the Dormant Commerce Clause section in my supplement. With 5 more pages to go I would say that I have started my Spring Break on a productive foot. I believe I deserve a pat on the back....now the only question is will I remain this productive...?

Many of you are probably asking yourselves.."what is the Dormant Commerce Clause?" and "who freaking cares?" But if any of you law school people are reading this you understand that us law school dweebs are excited about getting to study all week with no interruptions. And when I say no interruptions I am referring to the 15 hours of classes we have to sit through.

Well back to reading the rest of the 5 pages then onto actually enjoying this beautiful day!

Spring Break Starts TODAY at 3:30!!

It is here...it is FINALLY here...SPRING BREAK!! I do not know if I have ever looked so forward to a week where I can do homework the entire time. Yes, that is what law school does to you..it turns you into a MAJOR dork.

I am leaving this town today and going home so my mommy and daddy can take care of me. Sometimes I get tired of trying to be a grown up and need to go back to being a kid. This week is perfect for that.

Three classes stand in my way .... if only law professors had a heart ...maybe they would cancel or let us out early but the reality of that happening is slim.

The Headache Affect

Another long day at school and on the way home I was attacked by another painful and annoying headache. So I get home take out the trash and try to attempt to read Contracts and got through the first case when my downstairs neighbors decided to have a 5 o clock somewhere party otside. Do not get me wrong I am happy that some people get to come home crack open an cold one and sit on their patio but when I am trying to read it is quite annoying.

So I decided to close the Contracts book and organize my binders with power point notes I printed off at school. That was very productive and I have a sense of relief now that I do not have a bunch of loose leaf power point slides sitting on my kitchen table waiting for Tommy to pounce on them causing them to get out of order.

Although I was able to to organize my papers when I sat back down to read the last four pages of the Contract assignment there was the annoying headache that came back to attack me with its pounding in the front of my head. Needless to say I decided to write a blog about my annoying headache rather than work through the pain to read my reading assignment. O well...I have 15 minutes before Grey's comes out....maybe I will attempt to read Contracts one last time....I hope I don't experience the headache affect again.

On a side note....SPRING BREAK STARTS TOMORROW!! Tommy already has his board shorts out and ready to go! He can not wait to be on spring break...

Rainy Days Make Me Sleepy

Rainy Mondays are the worst. Mondays are hard enough but rainy Monday's are the hardest. Why? When I wake up on Monday and see that it is raining my body yells "GO BACK TO BED THIS IS SLEEPING WEATHER." But I am up drinking my coffee and watching the TODAY show as usual. Not straightening my hair today..do not feel like wasting time doing that. Hope everyone has a good Monday.

On a side note Spring Break is only FOUR DAYS AWAY!!!

That's what I love about Sundays...

Steven went back to Beaumont today and that means time to say hello to the books. Sundays have become one of my favorite days of the week. Not because Steven always has to say goodbye to me on Sundays or because Monday follows Sunday but because on Sundays there isn't anything really going on. I love routine so I enjoy waking up, drinking coffee, going to Mass, going to the store, doing homework, and ending Sunday with Desperate Housewives. I do it every Sunday and love it. I can come home change into my comfy faded workout pants and a big A&M t-shirt..drink my Starbucks and study. On Sundays I never feel pressed for time. I think that is one of the main reasons I love Sundays.

Sundays are not hectic days and that is why I love Sundays.

Fellow Bloggers I hope you are enjoying your Sunday.

Luby's Friday

Almost every Friday the law school crew and I venture over to Luby's for lunch. Fried fish, mac n cheese, and fried okra are calling my name. I love Luby's. But I love not having to make my lunch more.

Steven comes today and we are going on a double date with his sister and her boyfriend. I am excited. As for the rest of the weekend...nothing too exciting or out of the ordinary. Tomorrow the books will be calling my name as always and then Sunday I want to watch the Oscars. Not because I care who wins but because I love seeing the ladies in the beautiful dresses. If I had darker hair and brown eyes my goal would be to look like Anne Hathaway. That woman is beautiful.

On a side note, a week from today I will begin the 18th spring break of my life. Yes I have been in school for 18 years and when it is all said and done I will have 20 years of education behind my belt. I am so anxious to grow up and be a big kid and have a big girl job.

Where did February go?

March already....it seems like February 1st was just yesterday. I am not complaining thought...bring on warm spring weather, flip flops, and dresses. I am so tired of having to wear dark winter clothes and having to grab my jacket before I head out for the day. I am thankful for the sunshine that has made the past few days just beautiful.

My trial brief was due on Tuesday. Not happy with it. I feel like it falls short. But I do not know what I could have done to make it better. Sometimes law school makes me question my intelligence. Often times I think how much better...maybe...I would have done in a masters program..specifically a master in public administration.

O well, nothing I can do about that...I am in law school for the long haul and will not let it dominate me. One day I will be a lawyer. I just sometimes loose site with all the books staring at me.

Grey's Anatomy is new tonight and I am excited about that.
